Perfect for a holiday side dish, appetizer, or a cozy family dinner, this dish is as comforting as it is delicious. Ready in under 40 minutes, it’s a great way to add a festive touch to any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into thick rounds or cubes
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
½ cup brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup mini marshmallows
½ cup chopped pecans, toasted

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. In a large bowl, toss sweet potato cubes with melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until fully coated.
  3. Arrange the coated sweet potato pieces evenly on the baking sheet in a single layer.
  4. Roast for 25–30 minutes, flipping once halfway through, until the potatoes are tender and the edges are caramelized.
  5. Remove from oven and sprinkle the tops with chopped pecans and mini marshmallows.
  6. Return to the oven for 4–5 minutes, just until the marshmallows soften and begin to turn golden.
  7. Serve warm straight from the pan or transfer to a platter for presentation.

Notes

  • For even roasting, spread the sweet potato cubes in a single layer on the baking sheet to allow for proper caramelization.
  • Toast the pecans before adding them to enhance their flavor. You can toast them in a dry skillet or in the oven.
  • Feel free to try other toppings like shredded coconut or chocolate chips for a unique twist.
  • A pinch of salt is essential to balance the sweetness of the dish.
  • If you’re making these ahead of time, roast the sweet potatoes and coat them with the sugar mixture earlier in the day. Finish with the marshmallows and pecans before serving.
