Ingredients
Scale
6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
6 wooden candy apple sticks
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon pink gel food coloring
1/4 teaspoon blue gel food coloring
Cotton candy (pink and blue), for garnish
Instructions
- Wash and dry the apples thoroughly, removing any wax coating. Insert a wooden stick into the center of each apple.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it with cooking spray.
- In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and vinegar. Stir gently until sugar dissolves.
- Insert a candy thermometer and allow the mixture to cook undisturbed until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage).
- Remove from heat and carefully stir in vanilla extract. Divide the mixture into two separate bowls.
- Add pink food coloring to one bowl and blue food coloring to the other, stirring gently.
- Dip each apple into the pink or blue coating, allowing excess to drip off, then place on the prepared parchment paper to harden.
- Once cooled, attach small pieces of cotton candy to the tops for a whimsical effect. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- Use fresh, firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture and flavor.
- Ensure the candy reaches the hard crack stage (300°F) for proper coating consistency.
- Work quickly when adding the cotton candy to avoid it melting from the heat of the candy apple.
- These apples are best served immediately after they’ve been garnished with cotton candy.
