Ingredients
Scale
1 pound breakfast sausage
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup pepper jelly
1 package (1.5 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the breakfast sausage, shredded cheddar cheese, cream cheese, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until well combined.
- Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles.
- Place a spoonful of the sausage mixture at the wide end of each triangle and roll it up, starting from the wide end to the point.
- Place the rolled sausage bites on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- While the sausage bites are baking, heat the pepper jelly in a small saucepan over low heat until melted and smooth.
- Once the sausage bites are done, remove them from the oven and brush the melted pepper jelly over the top of each bite.
- Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve warm.
Notes
- Customize the Cheese: Feel free to swap the cheddar for your favorite cheese. A sharp gouda or creamy monterey jack would work beautifully in this recipe.
- Use Homemade Pepper Jelly: If you have some homemade pepper jelly on hand, now’s the time to use it! The homemade version will add an extra layer of flavor to the dish.
- Adjust the Spice: If you like your food spicier, you can use a hot pepper jelly instead of mild pepper jelly. Alternatively, adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sausage mixture will give it an extra kick.
- Make Ahead: You can prepare the sausage mixture and roll the dough bites in advance. Just store them in the fridge until you’re ready to bake them. This makes for an even quicker breakfast or snack!
- Try with Different Meats: If you’re not a fan of breakfast sausage, you can substitute it with other ground meats like turkey sausage or chicken sausage for a lighter option.
